Definition

Moxibustion - a method of treating and preventionof diseases through warm effect of the sagebrush cigars and cones at certain points and areas of the skin for therapeutic purposes. Acupuncture and moxibustion are the main components of Traditional Chinese medicine and external treatment modes.

History
The method of moxibustion has an ancient history, the origins of its development relate to the period when people learned how to make and use the fire. In ancient times it has been noticed that the thermal effect on the sore spot noticeably relieves pain symptoms. At thebeginning of their practice, healers of ancient China used tree branches and dried herbs as a material for moxibustion. As a result of a long search and observation, it was found that the leaves of sagebrushhave warming properties. Dried sagebrush leaves can easily inflame, have a fragrant smell, easilycan by handledand stored. Because of these qualities, sagebrush became the main material for moxibustion.

The therapeutic effect
1.Warming channels, removal of the cold. The peculiarity of the blood and energy movement consists in the fact that as the temperature rises (heat) - the circulation of blood and energy is quicker, as the temperature reduces(cold) - the movement of blood and energy slows down. In any diseases connectedwith stagnation of blood and energy circulation, caused by cold, can be used the warming treatment methods. Effecting on the points and meridians by hot sagebrushcigar, you can remove the cold, increase blood and energy circulation, and thereby achieve the therapeutic effect.
2. Cleaning out the channels. Energy freely and continuously circulates through the channels of the body. When it stagnates, the functional derangements and pain arise. In such cases, with help ofmoxibustiontherapy can be achieved good results in the elimination of energy and blood stasis, in cleaning out the channels.
3. Maintaining and retaining yang qi in the body. At the basis of the vital forces of human - is yang energy. When it is sufficient human lives long, with the loss and lack of yang energy - the human becomes ill. During any serious illnesses yang energy is weaken. With the intensive treatment with moxibustion cold energy is expelled from the body, yang energy replenishes, the health restoresas a result.
4. Prevention: Since olden timesthe ancient Chinese healershave been known and understood the importance of disease prevention. Andthey treated disease prior to its manifestation. The use of moxibustion just permitto achieve such goals.
